RISE with SAP is built for existing SAP customers moving their current ERP estate to the cloud, while GROW with SAP is aimed at organisations adopting SAP cloud ERP for the first time using standard best-practice processes. RISE supports both conversion of an existing system and a fresh build, whereas GROW is always a new implementation. The right choice depends on how much of your current SAP investment you want to carry forward.
A typical S/4HANA project runs from around six months for a straightforward conversion to eighteen months or more for a complex new build across multiple entities. Timelines depend on data quality, the degree of process change and how decisively the business makes decisions. Yes, eventually: SAP has committed to mainstream maintenance for ECC only until 2027, with extended options running to 2030, so every ECC customer needs a transition plan. Starting the assessment early keeps the timeline yours rather than the deadline’s.
SAP serves mid-sized businesses too, through SAP Business One and cloud ERP offerings designed for faster, standardised deployment. The full S/4HANA suite suits larger, more complex organisations, but the SAP portfolio scales down further than most people assume.
